Reflexology

When you need a bit more than relaxation, consider pairing reflexology with your massage. An ancient Chinese tradition, reflexology is the art of applying pressure to key parts of your hands, feet, and ears to stimulate comfort and healing in other parts of your body.

Combined with our Swedish massage, our reflexology packages give you the benefits of the large movements associated with Swedish massage as well as the small, precise, but still firm movements of reflexology.

Benefits of Reflexology

Reflexology doesn’t definitely cure any diseases, but people turn to these techniques to complement treatment for a variety of issues including anxiety, asthma, cardiovascular issues, and even cancer. Additionally, people who are struggling with diabetes, headaches, kidney issues, and sinusitis have also reported positive results after receiving reflexology. Even if you don’t have a serious issue, reflexology can enhance your overall well-being and stimulate your immune system to protect you from future illnesses.

Research on Reflexology

When people say they benefit from reflexology, it isn’t just the placebo effect at play. The research agrees. In 2008, Kunz and Kunz reviewed over 168 peer-reviewed studies on reflexology, and they found that reflexology supports the following:

  • Targets specific organs
  • Improves blood flow to the kidneys and intestines, even helping to improve kidney functioning in dialysis functioning
  • Reduces blood pressure
  • Lowers anxiety
  • Helps with relaxation
  • Reduces pain
  • Helps with AIDS symptoms, chest pain, peripheral neuropathy, kidney stones, and osteoarthritis

Reflexology Versus Acupuncture

Both reflexology and acupuncture are rooted in Eastern cultures, and most commonly, they are linked to Chinese traditions. Additionally, they both target key parts of your body. However, the similarities end there. Both of these modalities use different pressure points — while reflexology focuses primarily on points on the feet or hands, acupuncture uses points all over the body. Reflexology also uses pressure, while acupuncture uses needles. However, sometimes, reflexology practitioners also use tools such as rubber balls, nubby rosewood sticks, or other elements to enhance the experience.

Reiki Versus Reflexology

Originally from Japan, reiki is also sometimes compared to or confused with reflexology, but they are very different. Unlike reflexology, reiki doesn’t use much pressure or contact with the body. Rather, reiki relies on very soft touches to engage with the vibrational energy fields around the body.

What to Expect With Reflexology

During a combination massage and reflexology session, your massage therapist uses their training to determine which combination of techniques is going to give you the best benefits. You can also request extra elements such as hot stones or deep tissue work. Then, if you like, after the session, you can opt to relax in one of our private relaxation rooms that include private hot tub suites, private infrared saunas, and more.
